Competitive Open Grant Process Guidelines
The community foundation conducts one open competitive grant cycle each year.
The Grant Cycle will open March 1, 2010.
The deadline for applications is April 9, 2010 unless specifically noted on.
Awards are anticipated to be announced on April 30, 2010.
Applications are accepted for a wide variety of programs and projects that
improve the quality of life throughout Butler County, Kansas.
PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FILL OUT APPLICATIONS ON LINE AND PRINT THEM, BUT UNABLE TO SAVE THE FINAL APPLICATION. WE SUGGEST YOU FIRST PRINT OFF THE APPLICATION AND DO YOUR WORK OFF LINE BEFORE RETURNING TO COMPLETE THE FINAL DOCUMENT. ONCE COMPLETED AND PRINTED OFF; SIGNATURES AND ANY ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION MAY BE PACKAGED FOR FINAL SUBMISSION VIA US MAIL OR DROPPING OFF AT THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OFFICE.

* Health and Human Services
* Animal Welfare

General Competitive Grants
Multiple grants range from $150 to $300
Scholarships
Angleton Scholarship, multiple awards, average $2,000 a year
McEachern Scholarship one $300 annually
Gerbitz Scholarship, multiple awards, average $250 semester
Eligibility for General Grant Areas
* Proposal must come from a 501 (c) (3) or other qualified charitable entity.
* Proposal must be for work that primarily benefits residents of Butler County, KS.
* Organization must conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race,
religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or national
origin.
Grantmaking Criteria
Favored projects are those that:
* Provide a substantial benefit.
* Are based on meaningful, specific outcomes.
* Build self-sufficiency and help attract additional funds and resources for participants or organization.
* Assist or promote collaboration among nonprofits, so as not to duplicate other efforts.
In addition, the foundation is more likely to fund projects that:
* Are clearly and concisely described.
* Are based on complete and clear income and expense projections.
* Do not require recurring funding.
* Reasonably ensure continued support after foundation funding is no longer available.
* Are proposed by organizations that demonstrate sound financial practices and strong staff and volunteer support.
Limitations on Grantmaking
Generally, grants are not awarded for:
* Individuals
* Tickets or tables at special events, memberships, or advertising
* Annual campaigns
* Endowment funds
* Religious purposes
* Lobbying or political activities
* Debt retirement
Submission
Competitive Grant Applications are due April 9, 2010. A postmark of April 9th will be acceptable. Drop off at Community Foundation office must be before 5 pm on April 9th. Earlier submissions are encouraged.

Applications received after the submission date, will not be review or considered.
Evaluation (for grant recipients only)
At the end of the grant period, awardees are required to complete a short report form and attach a financial statement detailing how funds were used. This document will be providing to those that are award recipients. This is a great way for us to highlight how the donor dollars that are supporting your grant helped to make a community impact.
